Testing the client

In the process of the OnLAN Messenger service's work, a constant automatic connection testing takes place. This tests the channel between the server and the clients (including the locked clients). The test consists of a regular (it repeats itself in predetermined intervals of time) sending of special messages from the server to all clients, which the clients must reply to. In case of an absense of an answer from a client, the status for that client is changed to "OFFLINE". The time interval between automatic tests can be set in the server settings automatically, depending on the number of clients, or manually.

If an error occurs between two consecutive automatic tests, when sending the message to one of the clients, then their status ("ONLINE", "NOCONTACT", "LOCKED" etc.) will not change, but the attempts to send the message will continue until the send is successful, or until the number of attempts reaches the maximum allowed by the server settings. The error count is reset, when the automatic test takes place, or when some kind of answer is received from the client.

The above automatic test parameters are set in the "General" tab of the "Settings" menu (see Setting up the main parameters).

You can perform a forceful test of the clients at any time, without waiting for the next automatic test. To do this check the following menu in the "OnLAN Server" window: "Users" -> "Perform online user test" (pic #3).
