Old forum user This program is pretty good, if only you could make a proper interface for it as well... at least Windows Messenger quality.

Old forum user Yeah, we’re tired of it as well... we clean up the forum three times a day, but the spammers are everywhere. We’ll be implementing an anti-spam mechanism very soon.
What features of the client interface appear to be unsatisfactory?

Old forum user Hello, I’ll tell you about the interface a little later, in a few days. I’m currently studying the manual.

Old forum user We eagerly await your suggestions.

Old forum user I have some questions for now. The manual doesn’t explain the meaning of some of the user information fields in the registration menu:

1) State – what is that?
2) Password – what do I put here, when using the AD authentication method?
3) Policy mode – what’s that?
4) Zone – what’s that?
5) Can update – what and where?
6) Birthday – what if I don’t know the date of birth of a user, when registering them?
7) Sex – don’t you think it’s pretty easy to determine the user’s sex judging by the name?
What do you think?

Old forum user 1) State – the user’s current status ONLINE OFFLINE, etc. Can be changed by the client or changes automatically in accordance with events that occur on the client workstation (workstation becoming locked, screensaver activation, etc).
2) Password – you don’t put anything here, when using AD, this field is needed only when using the internal authentication method.
3) Policy mode – the way policies are applied to clients, for now it’s only “remote”.
4) Zone – this is zoning. The program can function within VPN networks that have virtual IP addresses. If the client you’re sending a message to is in a different zone, then p2p connection doesn’t work, but the message is sent through the server. For example, some remote company office, which is setup to work with only one server IP address.
5) Can update – if set to “no”, then importing modules will not affect user data. This is handy if you registered some users manually.
6) Sex – well, a human can of course tell the user’s sex by their name, but the machine cannot.icon_smile.gif You can search the database by sex, so the search results will include all users of the same sex.

Old forum user Thank you very much for your answers.
As for zoning... I have a main office and 12 branches. Each branch has a network of its own. The main office and each branch see each other, but there is no connection between branches - it isn’t really needed. How do I setup zoning in this case?

Old forum user Each office (login name list) should have a separate zone code, doesn’t matter what the code is, as long as it is unique.
Connection between zones is established through the server, and users in the same zone connect to each other directly.
This leaves only one requirement: users in all zones must have a p2p connection with the main server. Since the main server is located in the headquarters, that gives us the classic star-like network scheme, which is easy to setup within VPN networks.

Old forum user Thanks for your reply, I’ve set this up in four offices now, and it works!

This is a great product, but I’m quite dissatisfied with the interface... It’s just VERY uncomfortable. You always have to use the mouse, create messages in one window, but reply to them in another... and the first window gets minimized for some reason... That’s the window that should stay on top all the time, because that’s the window where the dialogue takes place! Isn’t this obvious? This makes the “quote” function obsolete.

Why not use the classical qip, Windows Messenger interfaces or their like?

So, clicking on a user would open a window, and everything else happens in that window. The message status is shown by means of an icon next to the text, like it’s done in qip.

Furthermore, the sidebar with the user list should NOT stay open all the time. It should be accessible by means of some button, but shouldn’t stay open at all times. Since we’ve clicked on a particular user, then we’re obviously sending the message to that user, we don’t NEED the contact list to stay open for that. It’s only a distraction.

The list should have two visible buttons at the side for scrolling or (even better) if you could scroll it by moving the mouse up and down over it. Although, I repeat, I don’t understand what it’s there for.

Basically, this unfinished interface is what creates an obstacle for my buying the product right away... don’t know what to do...

Old forum user Here’s a link to a perfect interface, in my opinion: http://www.geekgirls.com/images/Conversation.jpg
